Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding Between ROCHEMP Center and ICOMOS/Armenia and a Round Table Discussion with the Field Experts
On 24th of December ROCHEMP Center, in collaboration with the ICOMOS/Armenia, initiated a professional meeting at the office of the ICOMOS/Armenia. The Chair of ICOMOS/Armenia Mr. Gagik Gyurjyan and the Director of ROCHEMP Center Ani Avagyan on behalf of their organisations have signed a Memorandum of Understanding. Using the opportunity of a round table discussion in times of COVID-19 pandemic, the long-intended Memorandum of Understanding was signed between ROCHEMP Center and ICOMOS/Armenia. The signatories noted that since the opening of ROCHEMP Center in 2019 the two institutions have developed a close collaboration in frames of several projects and events, nonetheless, signing of this Memorandum is important for deepening further collaboration and serving as a point of reference.
Afterwards a round table discussion with the experts, representatives of the state institutions responsible for the research, documentation, preservation and protection of the immovable cultural heritage was organised. An important talk was developed With the invited experts about the methodological and technical issues of inventorying and preservation of immovable cultural heritage. Mr. Khachadourian made a presentation about his views on the problems of the state lists.

- Architectural Engineer, a researcher from France Harutyun Khachadourian ,
- The Secretary of ICOMOS/Armenia Gohar Gevorgyan,
- The Coordinator of ROCHEMP Center Gayane Babayan,
- The Head of the Administration of Preservation of Monuments of History and Culture of the Ministry of ESCS of RA Harutyun Vanyan,
- The Research Fellow at the Scientific Research Center, State Non-Commercial Organization of the Ministry of ESCS of RA and the architect of the ROCHEMP Center Nanar Kalantaryan,
- The Head of Scientific-Cultural Exhibitions and Events Organization Department Artavazd Zakyan and
- The Head of Monuments Preservation Department Viktoria Isahakyan at the “Service For The Protection Of Historical Environment And Cultural Museum-Reservations” State Non-Commercial Organization of the Ministry of ESCS of RA.
The participants pointed out that organisation of such meetings, round tables in terms of the search for ways of resolution of several field problems is useful. The importance of a cooperation and a dialogue of all professional institutions and individuals involved in documentation and preservation of historical and cultural heritage was particularly stressed.
As a result of the discussion, several issues related to the documentation of immovable monuments have been identified, including the problem of precision of geographical coordinates of immovable monuments, the issues in regard to the perspective (scientific research, historical and cultural heritage preservation and education, tourism) that is chosen for making state immovable lists, the lack of clear definitions and terminology.
At the end of the discussion the participants decided to organise another meeting with the involvment of other stakeholders in order to make possible the development of a common agenda with clearly stated problems, a proposal with set of required actions for their resolution which then, should be submitted to the Government of the Republic of Armenia with a purpose of familiarisation and taking forward the proposed reforms.
Finally, the parties thanked each other for a fruitful discussion with anticipation of further active collaboration.

Some good news for the Museums and Libraries in Armenia: Based on the Decision N 253 of the Superintendent of the State of Emergency, August 18, 2020 Museums and Libraries in Armenia are reopened.
Due to the situation with COVID-19 the Armenian Committee of ICOM in collaboration with its partners Ministry of Science, Education, Culture and Sports of RA, ROCHEMP . Regional Center for Cultural Heritage Enhancement, Management and Protection, ”My Armenia” program of USAID and the Smithsonian Institution and others has initiated the gradual implementation of ”COVID-19 Consequences Relief Program for Museums and Museum-Reserves”.
As a result of the information received from the needs assessment of museums and museum-reserves in Armenia, the program’s partner, USAID ”My Armenia” program has provided 36 museums and museum-reserves of 5 regions of Republic of Armenia — Shirak, Lori, Tavush, Vayots Dzor and Siunik, with the technical equipment, hygiene and safety kits for the relief and overcoming of COVID-19 challenges. This support constitutes part of the COVID-19 consequences relief program.

Museum in short
As a part of our mission to enhance cultural heritage of the Region and to assist museums in engaging new audiences by using multimedia approach, ROCHEMP will continue sharing and promoting new opportunities for Armenian and regional museums. In this respect, the opportunity to participate in the international contest Museum in short is the one that should not be missed. The contest is a great chance for museums to use their creative approach and new tools for presenting their museum at the international level. For more information on the requirements and application process, please read below.
Museums in Short is an international contest open to short videos realized by/for/with museums.
Since 2012, Museums in Short award is addressed to institutions, authors or producers who use audiovisual language to enhance museum communication and engage audiences. Projects may include documentaries, animations, trailers and visual installations.
REGULATION & APPLICATION FORM
The deadline for the submissions is 31st August 2020.
- Participants are museums / producers / authors.
- Entries are supposed to be in video format, related to museums and produced from 1st January 2017 onwards.
Videos must be in English or with English subtitles. Videos in different languages without English subtitles won’t be accepted. The maximum length required is of 10 minutes.
Each museum can be represented by only 1 video. The final judgment on the pertinence of the content is a prerogative of the organization.
The Award is open to the following categories of videos:
- Promotional: videos and trailers presenting museums or promoting temporary exhibitions (see an example here: https://www.museumsinshort.eu/partecipanti/dettaglio_video_vote.asp?id=302&idanno=8).
- Exhibits: short videos used in exhibitions as general introduction (https://www.museumsinshort.eu/winners/dettaglio_winner.asp?id=110&idanno=7) , multimedia content in an exhibit (https://www.museumsinshort.eu/winners/dettaglio_winner.asp?id=74&idanno=1 ), or as visual exhibit (https://www.museumsinshort.eu/winners/dettaglio_winner.asp?id=107&idanno=6).

Submissions presenting incomplete application forms will not be accepted.
By applying to the competition, every participant gets responsible for the content of the submitted work. Participants allow the uploading of the videos, as well as trailers or frames of the work, to the dedicated website www.museumsinshort.eu and the related medias of every member of the Organizing committee. The organization reserves the right to request the shortlisted participants additional information for promotional purposes.
After the closure of applications, a commission formed by experts in the field of museums and multimedia will select the winner. The date and the complete program of the award ceremony will be communicated later and published on the website www.museumsinshort.eu .
The winner will also be invited to present his achievement at the annual Best in Heritage IMAGINES event – the global conference featuring award-winning museum, heritage and conservation projects – that is held at the end of each September, in Dubrovnik (Croatia). The commission may give special mentions related to sections.
All the participants will be part of an online archive managed by musil. Videos will also include in a platform managed by European Museum Academy and used as scientific and teaching documents in European museum studies programmes or similar.
An online platform will give to the public the opportunity to vote for the public’s favourite short.
Participation in the competition implies full acceptance of these rules.

23 – 24 Gennaio 2020 – Cultural Heritage: experiences and perspectives in International context
The International Conference “Cultural Heritage: experiences and perspectives in International context” will be held on 23rd and 24th January 2020 in Yerevan (Armenia), at the Conference Hall of the Matenadaran Mesrop Masthots Research Institute for Ancient Manuscipts.
The event, organized by the ROCHEMP Center with the support of the Department of Cultural Heritage of the University of Bologna (Italy), the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of the Republic of Armenia and AICS – Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, will involve local, regional and international experts in an exchange of experiences and points of view on international cooperation in the conservation and management of Cultural Heritage, on the training of the different professionals working in the field and how can be involve the public.
The Conference stands as an opportunity for sharing and dialogue among experts in the field, fostering the development of new studies and perspectives for the enhancement of Cultural Heritage as a leading actor for social and economic growth.
The event will end with a round table where guests and public will share considerations and points of view on the topics of the two days.
The Conference “Cultural Heritage: experiences and perspectives in International context” is part of a series of public meetings organized by the ROCHEMP Center, two of which took place on last 17th December, and which will cover different aspects of tangible and intangible Cultural Heritage in the Republic from Armenia.
